Thank you for supporting AIDS Walk 2019!
This is my third year participating in raising funds and supporting AIDS Walk WI.
It's been a fraction of the 30 years; a long battle fought. The landscape has changed drastically. Though medical advances have resulted in simple, single dose medications with nearly no side-effects that can be taken once daily to control the virus, our shrinking healthcare coverage systems is resulting in decreases in access to routine dental care, affordable medications and routine medical care. Without assistance from state and federal programs, most people living with HIV, who are often living below 300% of poverty, would not be able to afford the medical care they need to be able to purchase their medications or perform routine lab monitoring to ensure they were responding well to their medicaitons. Shrinking access to affordable housing, as well as sustainable income is also resulting in food insecurity for a growing number of people willing with HIV. The virus is only one part of the issues our clients are facing. We walk with our clients through far more, but we start there.
