Claire's Fundraising Page
The AIDS Walk of Wisconsin is this weekend, and for the entire month of October, I am fundraising to support HIV/AIDS prevention, care and treatment programs! One of the primary reasons I choose to fundraise is that HIV disproportionately affects people living in poverty. I have been at the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin for a little over a year and witness this inequity on daily basis.
Today in our society, one of the most significant predictors of health outcomes is an individual’s zip code. HIV adversely affects marginalized and high-risk populations along with urban areas of poverty at much higher rates. In fact, 94% of ARCW patients live below the poverty level which only compounds the struggle that individuals living with HIV face. Consider the difficulty one endures in the face of food insecurity, lack of transportation, and for many - homelessness. When someone doesn’t know where their next meal will come from or where they will sleep, getting and taking HIV meds can be very challenging to prioritize or manage.
Serving the entire state, and now Denver and St. Louis, ARCW provides thousands of people with life-saving medical, dental, mental health and pharmaceutical care, in addition to social service programs like case management, food pantries, legal aid and housing assistance. I am personally involved with clients, helping them navigate and benefit from these programs. Thanks to support from individuals like you, ARCW is helping people with HIV in Wisconsin live longer than in any other state in the nation.
I am deeply grateful for your kindness and support of our efforts.
P.S. Feel free to join me (and my Mom) on October 6th for the walk!
