Why We Walk
We walk to make the fight against AIDS stronger.
Today, more than 6,900 people are living with HIV/AIDS in Wisconsin and it's estimated that an additional 1,000 are undiagnosed but living with the disease. We walk to make sure that anyone who is living with HIV in Wisconsin has access to life-saving health care and social programs.
When you register, fundraise or donate, you help people living with HIV live longer, healthier lives. This money stays in Wisconsin, 100% of it.
AIDS Walk Wisconsin and 5K Run is the largest HIV fundraising event in Wisconsin. Now in its 29th year, the Walk/Run has raised more than $13.1 million for the fight against AIDS. Taking place along Milwaukee’s lakefront, the event has brought together more than 128,000 walkers and volunteers since 1990, who raise pledges to help people with HIV live longer, healthier lives.
About the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW)
ARCW is one of the largest and fastest growing AIDS service organizations in the country, and a nationally renowned center for excellence in HIV health care. Through its integrated medical, dental and mental health clinics; pharmacy and medication assistance program; comprehensive HIV prevention efforts; and dedicated services such as food pantries, housing, legal representation and social work case management, patients gain the health care and support they need for long-term survival with HIV disease.
Thanks to quality health care and services like those provided by ARCW, people with HIV in Wisconsin live longer than in any other state in the country. For HIV patients, an undetectable viral load is the highest standard of disease management. At ARCW, 90% of patients have an undetectable viral load.
At ARCW, no person is turned away due to inability to pay for services. Among ARCW patients, 94% live in poverty.
Currently six out of 10 young people with HIV don’t know they carry the disease. As the need for services continues to grow, ARCW is dedicated to staying on the forefront of HIV health care and preventing the spread of AIDS.
AIDS Walk Wisconsin and 5K Run is produced by the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin. And we can't do it without our donations!
Thanks for your support! Tricia
