Why I'm Walking
On October 6, I'm walking with the Harley-Davidson team to raise funds for the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW). As many of you know, HIV prevention was a focus of my academic research, and it remains a passion of mine today.
While great strides have been made in managing HIV disease, there is no cure. Six out of 10 young people with HIV today don’t know that they carry the disease. As a parent of two teenagers, I find this to be a disturbing statistic. Please consider supporting ARCW and HIV prevention with a donation.
ARCW provides integrated medical, dental and mental health care; medications; comprehensive HIV prevention efforts; and dedicated services such as food pantries, housing, legal representation and social work case management to support long-term survival for persons with HIV disease.
Thanks to quality health care and services like those provided by ARCW, people with HIV in Wisconsin live longer than in any other state in the country. For HIV patients, an undetectable viral load is the highest standard of disease management. At ARCW, 90% of patients have an undetectable viral load.
